Project 10: Beverage Photo

Beverage photography is a great way to dive in deep into food photography. The hard shiny surfaces can be difficult to photograph. We are going to start out in a formulaic way to get a basic beverage shot. From there you could style and modify the set to get the kind of photo you are proud of.

Setup:

For ease, every photo will be taken on the gray tabletop with the white beadboard background. If you do something different, you might need to adjust some settings. Please let me know beforehand.

We are going to be working in the manual mode on a tripod.

You will need the flash trigger installed on your camera and that should be set up beforehand. There is no need to adjust the power settings on the trigger.

Manual Mode Settings:

  • Tv: 1/200
  • Av: 5.6
  • ISO: 100

Styling

This is where your picture is going to start to look different from everyone else's. Thry to coordinate the beverage you are photographing with the props and styling elements around it. How you would style a glass of iced tea might look a lot different from how you would style an oragne Fanta. If the items you need to style are not available on the styling table, you will need to provide them yourself.

Deliverable

Pick the best shot from your shoot for submission.
